Dojo revisited

Hey there

Took my old dojo that I recently did for a test on fundamentals and applied what i've learnt from Mental Ray to it, was quite tricky but my lecturer helped me secure the scene in a sphere too allow for the global illumination to work without destroying me with render time.

There are light leaks and a fair amount of noise but to try fix the model now would be like trying to fill the holes in a boat made out of swiss cheese. I learnt what I could here and put it into place and there's not much else that I could be bothered to do right now.

Hope ya like it

adding the old one for sake of comparison

And another thing

Here's a bathtub (earlier project for lighting from our lecturer)

Mental Ray cont.

So we continued learning the Mental Ray engine and tools today. Quite a lot of fun but also very tricky.

Our lecturer gave us a few scene to light and the rest, putting a few bumps and challenges in our way as is to be expected. Just gonna post up the renders. Most of them aren't good but hey, documenting the process of learning and in a way secretly contributan to society :D

Hope ya like em, and don't be afraid to comment or anything, i'm getting lonely talking to myself here.

Mental Ray

Hey there

Today we started learning the Mental Ray rendering engine. Suffice to say it's a bloody awesome tool, easily capable of making things look great if you know what you're doing.

Sadly I don't really know what i'm doing just yet, but here are a few renders and stuff of me fiddling around with the lighting settings (note: our teacher did the models I only did the lighting)

We basically studied about Global illumination and using the Final gather to do all that fancy stuff such as learning to use the

Initial FG point density tool the Rays per FG point tool the Interpolate over Num. FG points tool.

It is rather confusing to see how everything works but in the end it boils down to practice practice practice. and im going to focus all my energy into studying in the upcoming months so expect blog spam :D
